Readings for Student-Led Discussion on 11/10/11

When I read the first article that was listed for Adriana's group and I saw the list of parenting styles, I started wondering which style my parents use and my parents style would probably be a mix between authoritative and permissive. My parents do have rules and guidelines that they expect my sister and I to follow but there are very few. We also don't really get punished like most kids, for example I have never been grounded in my entire life and I know most of my friends have been grounded numerous times, but I also don't really do anything bad enough to deserve to be grounded anyway. Then I read the effects of these styles and the effects of a permissive style of parenting do not match how I am at all. I don't think I do poorly in school and I definitely do not have problems with authority.
Then when I read the second article about the innefective parenting techniques, I realized that whenever I am around kids and their parents try any of the things like counting to 3 or saying i'm not going to tell you again to stop, the child usually doesn't stop. I think this article would be helpful for parents that are having a hard time getting their child to listen to them because it gives examples of a better way to handle the situations and if I had a kid, I think they would be helpful.
I asked my mom if she ever had any trouble with this when I was a kid and if these methods would have been helpful, and she said that she never had any problems getting me to stop doing something and I was a very well behaved kid. :)
my sister on the other hand was a pain and very hard to control sometimes. I remember this because I was 8 when she was born and she has been like this for her whole life. She's 9 years old now and still as annoying as she was when she was born.
